2月14日，中共中央舉辦的省部級主要領導干部建設社會主義新農村專題研討班在中央黨校開班。中共中央總書記、國家主席、中央軍委主席胡錦濤在開班式上發表重要講話。他指出，全黨同志和全國上下要團結一心、扎實工作，真正使建設社會主義新農村成為惠及廣大農民群眾的民心工程。
"The Party and the nation as a whole must take a down-to-earth approach in the
building of a new socialist countryside that will truly benefit farmers,"
said Hu, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China.
down-to-earth表示realistic or interested in everyday occurrences;
practical and honest，這個詞的意思很豐富，在不同語境下需要靈活理解，有"實際的，切實的，樸實的，腳踏實地"等意思。上文中" a
down-to-earth approach"是"一個切實可行的辦法"的意思。舉個例子：She is very down-to-earth and
will tell you what she really thinks.（她很實在，會告訴你她的真實想法。）
如果某人對你說"Down to earth"，他的意思是讓你現實一點（"Back to reality"）。down to
earth可以作為一個介詞詞組，和一些動詞連用，如：bring sb. back／down to
earth的意思"使某人從幻想中清醒過來"；come back／down to earth是"回到現實中來, 不再幻想"的意思。
