China's first methanol dual-fuel ship completes green bunkering in Shanghai
China's first methanol dual-fuel powered ship, the Hong Kong-registered COSCO Shipping Yangpu container ship, completed the bunkering of 1,000 metric tons of green methanol via ship-to-ship transfer at the Shengdong Terminal of Yangshan Deep-Water Port in Shanghai's Lin-gang Special Area on July 11.

After the bunkering and cargo loading/unloading tasks, the vessel will begin its journey to the East Coast of the United States, transporting Chinese goods to ports such as New York.
The COSCO Shipping Yangpu is the first methanol dual-fuel container vessel built by COSCO Shipping Group, with a total length of 366 meters, a beam of 51 meters, and a maximum capacity of 16,136 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units).
Equipped with an advanced dual-fuel propulsion system, the vessel can seamlessly switch between methanol and conventional fuels, significantly reducing carbon emissions and pollutants during operation when using green methanol.
Since Yangshan Port accomplished its first domestic green methanol bunkering operation in March this year, Shanghai Port has established a regular green methanol bunkering service, thanks to efficient coordination across port terminals, storage systems, and bunkering operations.
This achievement marks another milestone in Shanghai's transformation into a green international shipping center, completing a closed-loop industrial value chain for domestic green methanol production, transportation, and bunkering.
