South China's Guangdong province and Macao have achieved significant progress in their integrated development, with the launch of a self-service terminal for residents from the Chinese special administrative region which started operation in four cities in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area on Monday.

The self-service terminal which is jointly led by Guangdong Provincial Government Service and Data Management Bureau and the identification service bureau of Macao, enables Macao residents to handle seven cross-border affairs, including social welfare, identity verification, voter registration, municipal services, tax inquiries, entry and exit, and transportation, covering 11 Macao government departments and bureaus, in four cities in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong, Zhuhai, Zhongshan and Jiangmen in the western part of Guangdong beginning Monday, said the identification service bureau.

Macao residents can simply insert their Macao resident ID card or designated identification document, or scan electronic identity and verify identity through facial recognition to handle cross-border affairs, the bureau said.

For paid services, residents can scan a QR code to complete their application and make payments," it said.

The bureau said it would continue to maintain close cooperation with the relevant departments in Guangdong, continuously study and expand cross-border government services and more convenient measures and provide more convenient conditions for residents of both sides to live and work in the Greater Bay Area.

According to the statement released by Guangdong Provincial Government Service and Data Management Bureau, the terminal, which facilitates the formalities of government services for the growing number of Macao residents working and living in Guangdong, helps further accelerate integrated development between Guangdong and Macao.

The self-service terminal also includes a caring mode for children and those in need, aiming to create a high-quality living environment in the Greater Bay Area for business, work, living, and tourism, it added.
