Region's livelihood boosted by line replacement project

A ground wire replacement project of the 110 kilovolt Longfang Line on cross-Yangtze River Jiajiang section was successfully completed on April 14 by the State Grid Zhenjiang Power Supply Company, marking the first time in the region that the segmented closure of navigation mode was used to complete the "aerial upgrade" of the Yangtze River middle section power lines.

As the lifeline of the region's power supply, the 110 kv Longfang Line undertakes the task of power transmission for people's livelihood and economic and industrial development. The Yangtze River is a "golden waterway" with dense ship traffic. Faced with the situation, the operators adopted a water-land-electricity coordination construction mode.

The State Grid Zhenjiang Power Supply Company, in conjunction with the Zhenjiang maritime bureau, implemented refined control over passing ships and closed the waterway for 4 hours each day. During the closure, the power supply staff members used drones to guide the work, which reduced the original construction time by more than 50 percent. This not only improved construction efficiency but also ensured construction safety, providing a replicable engineering model for the transformation of the ultra-high-voltage power lines on the Yangtze River mainline.

The line replacement project involved a total of 52 professional personnel and eight special equipment. Real-time monitoring of the ground wire sag and the distance between the wire and the river surface was achieved through drones, ensuring a zero-error switch between the old and new lines. Due to the work, over a hundred ships were efficiently diverted, achieving the goal of "zero delays, zero accidents" and minimizing the impact on shipping and the economy. After the transformation was completed, the mechanical strength and wind deviation resistance of the line will be significantly enhanced, which will further improve the reliability of power supply in the region.
