Top legislature pledges enhanced legislation and public engagement

China's top legislature will continue its efforts in legislation and supervision, fully implementing the Constitution and maintaining strong contact with the public to advance China's path to modernization, a spokesman said at a news conference on Tuesday.
Lou Qinjian, spokesman for the third session of the 14th National People's Congress, the country's top legislature, said the NPC will focus on developing whole-process people's democracy, uphold and improve the people's congress system, and ensure its effective implementation. These steps will provide a solid institutional guarantee for achieving the goals and tasks of the Communist Party of China and the people on their new journey in the new era.
He revealed that the NPC will establish a reporting system for the implementation of the Constitution, enhance the capacity and quality of constitutional review, and resolutely correct any actions inconsistent with the country's fundamental law to safeguard the unity, dignity, and authority of the national legal system.
The NPC will also strengthen legislation in key, emerging, and foreign-related areas, accelerating the improvement of a legal system that ensures equality of rights, opportunities, and rules, he said.
Additionally, the NPC will exercise its supervisory role to promote the implementation of policies, ensuring that every state organ exercises power in accordance with the law and safeguards the legitimate rights and interests of the people, Lou added.
He also called for maintaining close contact with the people to solicit their opinions widely, guaranteeing that they can voice their ideas at every step of the NPC's work and participate in related activities.
