The Shanghai leg of the 2025 FIM Motocross World Championship (MXGP), a top-tier global off-road event, will take place at a new track in Fengxian Bay in southern Shanghai's Fengxian district, from Sept 12 to 14. Over 90 elite riders from more than 20 countries and regions worldwide are set to compete.

As the highest-level motocross championship globally, the 2025 season runs from March to September. The Shanghai leg is the only Asian stop and the penultimate race on the calendar, featuring four categories: MXGP, MX2, 85CC youth, and the newly added 250CC domestic class.

Notable participants include current championship leader and 2015 world champion Romain Febvre, as well as five-time world champion Tim Gajser. The event also offers eight wildcard spots, giving Chinese off-road elites more opportunities to compete against world-class riders.

Xu Jianhao, a 32-year-old professional motocross rider who has raced since age 8 and witnessed the sport's growth in China, expressed enthusiasm: "I'm glad to see high-level events land in China, nurturing more talents to shine on the world stage." He hopes to secure a wildcard spot, adding, "I want to showcase my best to all Chinese riders and fans who love this sport."

Held in Shanghai in 2019 and 2024, this year's event features a new track designed by International Motorcycling Federation's (FIM) professional team to suit local geography. It is China's only certified motocross circuit and the world's first integrated international motorsports base hosting MXGP, MINIGP youth, and WKC karting events.

The 1.65-kilometer MXGP track includes a 66-meter straight, 10-meter average width, 15 turns, and 18 varying slopes up to 5 meters high. Its design, with high drop jumps and complex rhythm turns, balances competitiveness and spectator appeal.

Isak Gifting from JK Yamaha Racing, competing in Shanghai for the first time, said he looks forward to racing on the new track and delivering an exciting performance. "This trip is not just for the race but also to explore the city," he noted.

During the event, a carnival will be held in collaboration with local resources. Ticket holders can enjoy exclusive benefits in dining, culture, tourism, transportation, retail and accommodation within specified periods.
